“Motivating your child”

“Motivating your child” /

By: Jennifer Pacaldo

?/

Have you ever faced a class full of blank stares where most of the replies you hear are “Yes”, “No”, or “Maybe”? Have you ever felt frustrated by their lack of interest?

As for me, teachers have to find practical ways to motivate their students to learn and appreciate the language, and at the same time, sustain students’ interest in the language learning process.

For?a child to be motivated, learning needs to be fun and stress-free.?I try to provide as many fun activities as I can for learning English such as listening to music, watching some English videos and all sorts of games. I try not to criticize them too much when they make a mistake because I believe and I understand that it’s natural to make mistakes when learning a language.

?And most of all it’s a great idea to talk about the things that interest them, it’s also a great way to establish rapport. Once you connect with them, you won’t find any more blank stares. You’ll see a room full of eager, smiling faces!

“MY ROLE TO PLAY”

“MY ROLE TO PLAY” ?/

By: Mary Jane Booc ?/

In honour of the dedicated teachers which played an important role in English instruction for kids, Philinter/JELAI has proven its effectiveness in language instruction.

As one of the instructors, this is my testimonial.

I do not find it hard to teach juniors, and in fact I enjoy it with students by involving play while the kids are simultaneously learning the language. However, the challenge is to let them realize the importance of the language as most of them tend to take it for granted. I had to try and try after every failure and frustration discovering what should be done to get through with the challenge, and honestly, I have realized that there is no one perfect tool for all students. Every kid has to be dealt uniquely realizing that everyone is different. There may be similarities, but never the same.

Now, I find more joy and fulfilment teaching kids with varying personalities and learning styles. I hope my co-teachers, at one point of their teaching, personally make the same confession and realization.

TOEIC

“Taking Charge”

Taking Charge”?/

Many students of English are defeated by their fear of taking English Proficiency Tests like TOEIC and as a result, they shy away from this vital assessment and would tend to settle for less instead of the best. However, TOEIC should not be something to be afraid of but it should be something to be taken as a challenge as it does not only open doors but also widens horizons. Clich? as it may sound; students must overcome their fears one way or another to better themselves in their chosen paths.

Through Philinter TOEIC classes, you will be in an environment in which you will be guided by teachers in improving your weaknesses with the feeling of diligence and perseverance. Most importantly, you will be able to gain the necessary skills and knowledge which will equip you to walk out of the school full of confidence and very much ready to take charge of your future!

“Philinter’s Business English Course Updates”

Philinter’s Business English Course Updates/

By: Garrick Nehls

?/

It has been an interesting year so far. The Business English course is expanding rapidly with its new academic program and its greater emphasis on workplace English. While the business courses of other academies still insist on concentrating on Business persons, Philinter’s business course has widened its scope to include all the many English students who need the language for the workplace, regardless of industry.

We have had engineers, accountants, computer programmers, statisticians, public speakers, advertising consultants, scientists, auditors, among many other professions, all within the past few weeks. All of them have benefited from the curriculum, recognising its usefulness in their professional development.

We are looking forward to taking even greater steps in the near future to expand our reach to provide superior academic programs to professionals, fulfilling Philinter’s vision for its students: to “learn English the right way”.

“RESUME MISTAKES… HOW MANY HAVE YOU MADE?”

“RESUME MISTAKES… HOW MANY HAVE YOU MADE?” /

RESUME that is presentable and suitable is the best document/paper when applying for certain positions. The papers comprises one’s resume initially represent oneself to the interviewer and can give good impact to your prospective employer and career.

The following factors are to be considered in doing a resume appealing to the Employer or company.

(1)?PRESENTATION?? It must have a simple structure which is readable and understandable to the reader especially to the Interviewer with the key components that include obvious statement of name, address and date, subject titles, summary sentences for responsibilities/abilities; (2)?UNRELATED INFORMATION?? The existing details to the previous companies where one was connected must be appropriate, brief and obvious. A company is interested about your ability to finish the work needed and your competencies on any tasks given based from the references written in your work experiences. Too much personal detail is needless while oversimplifying will not offer adequate details on the other hand. (3)?LENGTH?? A resume need not to be too long since different companies, employers and HR Officers have personal opinion on how long resume should be. All you need is just to provide details satisfactory to a company that perfectly shows your abilities, scope of responsibilities, attitude towards work and competencies. It is essential that you find a balance between offering enough details that showcase the factors to which they can hire the most competent person for the position. (4)PERSONAL INFORMATION?? To some countries, there are particular laws and regulations limiting the data pertaining to age, marriage position, gender, impairment, culture or other similar features. You have to know the nature of the company that you are applying to first and give merit factors to which are necessary to that certain company. Many companies are focused mostly on your ability to finish on particular tasks and your competencies on certain positions. On a lot of events, private details do not matter and are needless.

So, start making a simple yet readable and understandable resume and be sure to get hired to the company you long to be part with.

“LONGER INTRODUCTION?”

LONGER INTRODUCTION? /

By: ?Dan Nahum Estillore

?/

I often see students writing long introduction hoping to have a better score in writing task 2.

Here is my view:

Writing a long introduction is more likely to harm you than making your writing better. The more time you spend in your introduction the less time you have in writing good main body paragraphs.? Remember, the main body is far more important than in any parts of your essay. It is the key of getting a high score.

So what should a student do?

Here are some suggestions:

  1. Spend less time in both introduction and conclusion.
  2. Spend more time planning the main body paragraphs.
  3. Be familiar and prepare ideas for common IELTS topics before you take the exam.

Listening is one of the requirements for the student to take the IELTS and get a good band score. For student who wants to study IELTS Listening, he/she should know the basic rules and strategies in Listening. An individual must be good in listening and comprehension of what one listened to for a more probability of choosing the correct answers among the choices.

Studying IELTS listening is a great challenge. It’s a transcontinental language which the individual explores his/her horizon of the language through the diverse intonation, pronunciation and accent than the other standardized listening exams.

In addition, IELTS listening boosts the student interests to be determined in getting the required and targeted band score through discovering and enhancing his/her weaknesses and at the same time recognizing his/her strength in listening.
